Hi friends!
Exciting news! We’re just under one month away from the official publication date of 🌱 WILD GREENS BEAUTIFUL GIRL 🌺. Don’t forget: The picture book is available for pre-order now from all major online retailers. Please consider supporting your local indie bookseller. (If you order through Bel Canto Books in Long Beach, CA, you’ll get a signed/personalized copy from yours truly.)
As we countdown to the launch date, please enjoy this video trailer, directed and animated by my lovely and talented husband Nader Husseini (@hellonader). I’m proud to say he’s a three-time Emmy-nominated designer for film and television…and he very graciously contributed his time and effort to create this beautiful teaser, bringing to life the gorgeous watercolor artwork by illustrator Cinyee Chiu (@ccinyee). Much thanks to my cousin Shan Li Bannai Serasis (@teacherbannai), who translated the English manuscript into Chinese, and Joseph Hatch, art director at Cherry Lake Publishing Group, for his design collaboration.

The music you hear in the background is a song that I found while scrolling through Instagram one day, researching Taiwan’s indigenous youth culture. The music is composed by 馬樂 Madal (@madal_maler), with singing by the teachers and students of Ningpu Elementary School in Changbin Township, Taitung County 台東縣長濱鄉寧埔國小. The song is called “O losid no ‘Amis - 阿美族的族服 - Clothing of the Amis”, which is featured in the new album “O ’olic no ‘orip - 生活的詩 - Poetry of Life”, which combines Amis vocals with electronic music. (Find it on Spotify!) I reached out to Madal, asking if I could use the song for my reel, and I’m so glad he said yes! I thought it was the perfect soundtrack to set the mood for this mother-daughter story, imagined in the coastal plains of Taitung, my mother’s hometown.
